Instituted in 1976. Four piece construction, in silver with red, white and green enamels, obverse centrepiece illustrating crossed fasces and sword with the inscription "AL MERITO" above, within an open ended wreath of laurel leaves, mounted to a green cross base, reverse centrepiece with the conjoined letters "GC" (Guardia Civil), measuring 43. 8 mm (w) x 51. 8 mm (h) inclusive
